Umbrellas are an important item for any traveller, particularly if you are travelling to a northern hemisphere or Victorian winter.
It is a good idea to buy this piece of equipment before you travel as while on the road you may only find the ultracheap versions at corner stores that may not last to the end of the first day.
Some hikers even prefer an umbrella over wet weather clothing gear to avoid getting clammy. Not the best solution in a windy environment of course.
