Tromso was the destination for our brief Havila cruise and hopefully where we might see the northern lights.

Sadly the weather for our stay here was quite poor- it was the cloudiest time of our holiday.

We arrived at Tromso at 1320 and walked about 15 minutes to our accommodation – this time an apartment with its own washing machine.

We had been hoping to see a football match while we were in Tromso and booked seats for the 5.00 pm game between Tromso IL and Hamarkameratene.

Tromso triumphed 1:0 nil.

After the game we went to the club store and I bought a Tromso FC polo shirt in cotton with no advertising- a very rare find.

We then caught an Uber to a Japanese restaurant for dinner before walking home.

Day two started with the luxury of washing in our own room with A los if washing in our own machine to start the day was a luxury.

First up we went looking for a good coffee at a shop Ainsley searched for online. They also had nice pastries for breakfast.

We then headed for the Fjelheiden (cable car) to see the sites.

Rain and cloud limited out views but we got the sense of fjords and beauty that is Tromso.

After the descent we walked to the Arctic Cathedral which is the most impressive church I think I have seen.

It is beautiful and shall enough to be a place of worship , more so I think than the very large medieval cathedrals.

I wonder also whether this building from 1965 inspired Jan Utzon’s Sydney Opera House.

We then walked across the bridge back to the city to visit the Arctic Museum.

We then had lunch at the most northern McDonalds in the world followed by shopping for tourist gifts.

After a nap at our unit we headed out to the local Egon for dinner.

Woke to rain and I think small hail before light, later noting it snowed overnight on the hills around the town, including the top of chair lift where we were yesterday.

Had a nice coffee and croissant at the onsite Bakery and then completed our packing, waited around a bit then started the dishwasher and put the rubbish in the designated rubbish mechanism – which was outside – and appeared to drop via the receptacle to an underground location.

No security code required though.

Norway does rubbish different to anything we have experienced before.

Uber to the airport and we got vistas of a significant by my reckoning snowfall. The check process for luggage is much better than Australia.

Once you print your labels you walk your bag to the loading point – scan the barcode and it goes.

No mucking around waiting for it to scan itself like the slow process at home.

While waiting for our flight we got to watch the rain fall on the uncovered baggage. Once a major shower passed the Team Leader (label on back of jacket) decided to roll the rain covers over the bags.

Our plane’s arrival was delayed because of requirement to remove snow from our runway.

We flew over considerable white mountains on the way south.
According to our taxi driver last night’s snow fall was the first of the season.

Arrived in Oslo at 1405 to beautiful sunshine.
